THE MIKE LARRY INTERVIEW

What first got you into music?

I grew up in church and I always was into all the instruments and loved the sound they created, so that’s when I started playing drums in church and that started my love for music in general.

Who inspired you to make music?

The local rappers, like Craftmatic, Sinclair Hall, Kay-Jon, etc. — everyone was rapping but won’t too many people producing beats. I started Polo Mike Productions and jumped on the music scene.

How would you describe the music that you typically create?

Inspirational Hip Hop — my music is REAL. The music I create brings positive vibes! My music is relatable to everyone — no matter the age, race or gender!

What is your creative process like?

I put in long hours in the Stu listening to beats. I listen to beats until I find the right one. I load it up in Ableton and start freestyling until I find something catchy or that sticks out in my lyrics. I use this as my foundation and start building around it.

Who would you most like to collaborate with?

My Top 5 would be Drake, Tori Lanez, Rihanna, J Cole, Rick Ross.

If you could go open a show for any artist who would it be?

Anybody, I just love having the chance to perform my music in front of other people so my dream is heard!

Where have you performed? What are your favorite and least favorite venues?

Give customers a reason to do business with you. I’ve performed at The Bridge Community Center, K.R.U Community Easter Egg Hunt event, DJ Chuck T “The Reverb” Live showcase, Miracle Revival Holiness Church, The Legacy, The Lynch Station Lizards Football Banquet, a Family Birthday Celebration, and family funerals.

My favorite performance was at my grandmothers’ home church, Miracle Revival. After my performance, the whole church went CRAZY over the song “Check Up”. They started shouting and everything lol.

My least would be the funeral because I wasn’t prepared and forgot my own words smh….. it was a very emotional performance.

I have shows coming up in Charlotte during the spring of March with the live band Back 2 the Feature and also have a wedding I’m booked for, due to covid a lot of events were postponed.

Do you have any upcoming shows or events?

I haven’t performed since my first project due to the pandemic so I would have to say my first single “Blessings” cause the crowd always interact with me and hit a little jig while singing along with me

How do you feel the Internet has impacted the music business?

My personal opinion is the internet has helped independent artists like myself tremendously. You just have to take the time to promote yourself and gain as many fans as you can to help push your content over the internet. Learn different promotional tools are given to us and invest in yourself.

What is the best advice you’ve been given?

Steve Harvey when he said — “You have to take certain risks, you have to leap before you find out if you ready to fly”

“When you think you’ve done it all, You still haven’t done enough”

What is one message you would give to your fans?

Whatever you do, Never Stop Dreaming and turn your dream into reality.

What’s next for you?

We will have to see! All I know is that I’m gone steady keep grinding and keep chasing my dream until the whole world is saying “THE MIKE LARRY”.
